Self Compassion Series
Workshop 1: Cultivating Self Kindness
Date: Saturday, February 24th 1 pm- 4 pm
Self-compassion entails being warm and understanding toward ourselves when we suffer, fail, or feel inadequate, rather than ignoring our pain or flagellating ourselves with self-criticism.
Join Therapist/Yogi pair Janelle Stauffer & Lindsey McConnell-Soong in this three hour workshop exploring the 1st element of self compassion: Self Kindness. This workshop will integrate teaching, movement, meditation, and guided journaling to support a full exploration of self kindness vs. self judgement and self criticism.
Workshop 2: Discovering Shared Humanity
Date: Saturday, March 17th 1 pm-4 pm
Frustration at not having things exactly as we want is often accompanied by an irrational but pervasive sense of isolation – as if “I” were the only person suffering or making mistakes. All humans suffer, however. The very definition of being “human” means that one is mortal, vulnerable and imperfect. Therefore, self-compassion involves recognizing that suffering and personal inadequacy is part of the shared human experience – something that we all go through rather than being something that happens to “me” alone.
In this workshop Janelle & Lindsey will guide students to explore limiting thoughts that are contrary to shared humanity. Movement, Meditation, Guided Journaling, & Guided Activities will support students in applying specific changes to move toward more self compassion.
Workshop 3: Settling into Mindfulness
Date: Saturday April 28th, 1 pm-4 pm
Self-compassion also requires taking a balanced approach to our negative emotions so that feelings are neither suppressed nor exaggerated. Mindfulness is a non-judgmental, receptive mind state in which one observes thoughts and feelings as they are, without trying to suppress or deny them. This workshop will dive into Mindfulness as the culmination of self compassion.
